Snow Sled Girl (wheeeee!!!)

December 2, 2016

One of the things I love to do is to buy clothes for my little grandniece, who just  turned 4. For some reason, I became very inspired by the designs they have for children. They had a top with a little girl snow sledding down a hill. We had toboggans growing up....and who knows what they do now!!!!

I thought the perfect head would be from a class I took in 2014 through Effy Wild called Radiant Faces. Tamara Laporte taught this class called "Inner Child."She called them "Lollipop Girls" because the heads are so big and the body so small. Really, you could do anything. I thought, "what a perfect technique for my snow sled girl!"

If you want to learn how to do this technique, please look up Effy Wild Radiant Faces  2014 and enjoy Tamara's class on the "Inner Child" - so much fun!

And, no, I didn't follow all the rules...the important part is to just remember to have fun!

Supplies I used

  • 140 hot press water color paper

  • clear gesso, let dry

  • Pencil to draw girl

  • Neocolor 11 Salmon for face; Red Yellow for cheeks; Ochre for shading; Veronese Green for eyes; Ruby Red lips and eyes; Phthalocyanine Blue for eyes

  • Posca Pens Pale Coral for hat and coat; Blue mitts and Yellow for hair; White for highlights as needed

  • Black perm ink for eyes and outline

  • graphic pencil on hair and blending stump to blend

  • Ourline for anything you feel you need to outline

  • Painted background with Indigo Blue Daniel Smith watercolor

  • I used a 12 by 12 snowflake stencil.

  • Used light modeling paste and mixed with Payne's Gray and covered the paste over the snowflakes
